The Bandolero Rig

A classic design that provides a great way to carry your handgun while in the great outdoors. The bandolero rig is ideal for horseback or ATV riding where cross-draw is much more efficient than strong-side carry.  My bandolero rigs are modular to allow the user to change the fit to accommodate multiple wearers and clothing options. The modular design also accommodates changing holsters and cartridge carriers, if desired.

I make my bandolero rigs using premium full-grain, vegetable-tanned cowhide leather. The "standard" rig includes a removable crossdraw holster with a smooth front and snapped hammer strap retention.  (By the way, the holster can be removed from the bandolero and used as a "stand alone" holster.)  I use 2 1/2" wide main and back straps with a removable 10-round cartridge carrier mounted on the front strap.  The entire rig is assembled with Chicago screws for ease in sizing and future customization.

I've added a few examples of previous bandolero rig builds below.

This rig was made for a Smith & Wesson 460XVR with a 10.5" barrel with a 1" compensator.  This is a beast of a revolver...weighting in at a little over 5 lbs.  The 460 XVR can fire the 45 Colt (shown), 454 Casull and 460 Magnum cartridges.

This rig features customizations which includes a pig skin lined holster, border tooling around the face of the holster and a buckled leather waist strap to keep the revolver stable.

This bandolero rig was created for a Smith & Wesson Model 29 with a 6 1/2" barrel.  Tooled with a "North Woods at Dusk" scene which includes a moose with a mountain range in the background and the owner's initials on the holster face.

This bandolero rig was made for a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter with a ruggedized miniature reflex (RMR) red dot sight.  It features an "olive oil" finish to give it a great light tan color that will develop an attractive patina over its lifetime. It also includes  "We The People" tooled on the main strap.

This is a bandolero rig I created to fit a Ruger Super Blackhawk with 10.5" barrel. The customer provided the antique, handmade brass buckle that I integrated into the main strap.  The rig included a "cavalry flap" holster with basketweave tooling on the face to provide enhanced retention and to help protect the revolver.

This bandolero rig was made for a reproduction of the Remington Model 1875 Outlaw made by Uberti with 7 1/2" barrel.  The fully lined holster is a variation of the "slim" style holsters with a fully covered trigger.

A left-hand bandolero rig for a reproduction of the iconic Smith & Wesson Model 3 "Schofield" revolver.  The Model 3 Schofield was a single-action, cartridge-firing, top-break revolver produced by Smith & Wesson from circa 1870 to 1915, and was recently offered again as a reproduction by Smith & Wesson and Uberti.

This rig included a custom tooled horseshoe and barbed-wire border.

This rig was made for a 1873 Single Action Army (SAA) in 45 Long Colt.  It features a Ruffed Grouse tooling on the holster
